报告人简介:

Dr. Zhiqun Linis currently Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the GeorgiaInstitute of Technology. He received the B.S. degree in Materials Chemistryfrom Xiamen University, Fujian, China in 1995, the Master degree inMacromolecular Science from Fudan University, Shanghai, China in 1998, and thePhD degree in Polymer Science and Engineering from University of Massachusettsat Amherst in 2002. He did his postdoctoral research at University of Illinoisat Urbana-Champaign. He joined the Department of Materials Science andEngineering at the Iowa State University as an Assistant Professor in 2004 andwas promoted to Associate Professor in 2010. He moved to Georgia Institute ofTechnology in 2011, and become a Professor in 2014. His research interestsinclude polymer-basednanocomposites, block copolymers, polymer blends, conjugated polymers, quantumdots (rods, tetrapods and wires), functional nanocrystals (metallic, magnetic,semiconducting, ferroelectric, multiferroic, upconversion and thermoelectric)of different architectures (plain, core/shell, hollow and Janus), solar cells (perovskite solarcells, organic-inorganic hybrid solar cells and dye sensitized solar cells),lithium ion batteries, hydrogen generation, hierarchically structured andassembled materials, and surface and interfacial properties. He has published more than 230 peerreviewed journal articles (with an h-index of 65), 13 book chapters, and 5books. Currently, he serves as an Associate Editor for Journal of MaterialsChemistry A, and an editorial advisory board member for Nanoscale. Heis a recipient of Frank J. Padden Jr. Award in Polymer Physics fromAmerican Physical Society, an NSF Career Award, a 3 M Non-TenuredFaculty Award, and an invited participant at the National Academy of Engineering’s2010 US Frontiers of Engineering Symposium. He became a Fellow of Royal Societyof Chemistry in 2014 and a Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowin 2015. 报告摘要:

Batteries playcritical roles in the exploitation of green energy resources and thedevelopment of portable electronic devices. As electrode materials,nanocrystals exhibit a wide range of advantages such as large specific surfacearea, short ion/electron transfer distance and high electrochemical reactionactivity. However, high surface energies of nanocrystals lead to easyaggregation of nanocrystals in both synthesis and battery running processes,thus giving rise to great synthetic challenge and quick capacity fading.Breakthrough strategies that facilitate the synthesis of an exciting variety ofelectrode nanomaterials with rationally designed composition, controlledmorphology and stable structure in a convenient manner are of key importance inrevolutionarily advancing the application of nanocrystals for energy storagedevices. In this talk, I will discuss a general and robust strategy forcrafting a rich variety of nanocrystals (i.e., SnO2 and MFe2O4 (M = Zn, Mn, Coor Ni)) as advanced electrode materials with precisely controlled dimensions byemploying a set of judiciously designed unimolecular star-like andbottlebrush-like block copolymers as nanoreactors. The uniform carbon (orpolymer layer) coating and homogenous GO matrix (or carbon fiber) encapsulationare found to be effective and able to improve the structural stability andelectronic conductivity of nanocrystals for achieving superior cyclingstability and rate performance. The mechanisms of the property improvement ofthese functionalized nanocrystals in batteries will also be discussed.
