Education: 1998-2002undergraduate (Tsinghua and HKBU); 2002-2007 PhD (UW-Madison), 2007-2009postdoc (UC-Berkeley). The Chi laboratory focus on thedevelopment of fundamentally novel basic catalytic activation modes with usefulsynthetic applications for the preparation of pharmaceuticals, agriculturechemicals, fine chemicals, and for efficient assembly and/or modification ofpolymers, biomolecules, and other functional molecules. Over the past years, wehave developed new activation modes and synthetic transformations enabled byN-Heterocyclic Carbene (NHC) as the key organic catalyst.
