Department of Chemistry has 25 faculty members including 10 professors and 9 associate professors, among whom one is Ph.D. advisor and 20 are master supervisors. The faculty feature rigorous scholarship and pioneering spirit with strong teaching and research strength. They also hold a lot of academic positions, such as the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (1), the National Fund for Excellent Young Scientist (1), Guangdong Thousand-hundred-ten Talent Cultivation Project (2), Excellent Scholar of SZU (3), Shenzhen “high level professional and technical leading talents” (1), Shenzhen “high level professional and technical reserve talents” (1), Overseas high-level talents of Shenzhen “Peacock” program (6), Li Yuan Excellent Youths of SZU (6). The department possesses Shenzhen Key Lab of Functional Polymer and Shenzhen Key Engineering Center of Composite Based Positive Materials for Power Lithium-ion Battery, and the Talent Cultivation Pattern Innovation Platform of Shenzhen University.

As the first-class discipline, there are three undergraduate directions in Applied Chemistry, Chemistry, and Chemistry Teacher Education. The department has been following the cultivation pattern of “wide caliper, solid foundation, emphasizing ability and seeking innovation”. The proposed goal is to find a new mechanism of training creative talents of chemistry, to prepare undergraduates with acute thoughts, professional quality, strong practical ability, and leadership in chemistry and relevant fundamental fields in future. In recent years, the students have won more than 200 innovation projects and awards at and/or above University level, such as “Shenzhen May 4th Red Flag Youth League Branch” and “Advanced collectivity of Shenzhen University”.
